A new take on a historic location

Nestled in the heart of Downtown Elkin, the Wool Inn stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of history that has shaped this vibrant community. Originally established as the first location of the Elkin Tribune, this historic building has witnessed diverse roles from a Firestone tire dealership to a butcher shop, and later the Sample Store. Since 1983, it has been cherished and preserved by the current family owners. The name "Wool Inn" pays homage to the legacy of the Chatham Manufacturing woolen mill, a cornerstone of the town’s identity. Today, guests are invited to experience the elegance of this unique inn, where history and hospitality intertwine.

Whether you are staying with us in the Wool Inn or just visiting Elkin, we invite you to experience the artistry of Janet Key, a local treasure whose influence has graced our community for over four decades. From 1983 until 2024, Janet operated the renowned Sample Store, a haven for art lovers that showcased her talents as a painter.

We are fortunate to announce that Janet will continue her artistic journey right beneath our very own Wool Inn, operating within the mercantile. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore and purchase her latest creations.

At Wool Inn & Mercantile, you’ll also find special gifts for any occasion. Enjoy the blend of local charm and refined style at Wool Inn.
